L'équipement du gladiateur
Nous avons à coeur de fabriquer nous-même, autant que faire se peut, le maximum de notre équipement. Ainsi, tout ce qui se trouve sur cette page a été créé par les membres de l'Association, la plus grande partie par notre Président, Michel, alias Dardanius, qui est devenu un véritable expert en matière de confection de boucliers, manicas et autres ocreas !
Nous encourageons chaque membre à apprendre à confectionner son propre équipement : certains, comme Astyanax, ont réussi à se faire leur propre manica ou leur ceinture, et Ogmios a même réussi à faire sans utiliser de forge une paire d'ocreae Thrace en métal, ainsi qu'une manica d'écailles en métal ( cf. photos ci-dessous )... Ce qui prouve qu'avec un peu de curiosité et beaucoup de travail, réaliser ces équipements antiques sans l'avoir vu faire par aucun artisan, mais simplement en utilisant les iconographies de l'époque et de la logique, est accessible à tous !
( Il s'agit d'un entraînement, nous sommes donc en tenue de sport. Néanmoins, nous portons les protections historiques. )
Vous trouverez sur cette page la fabrication d'un bouclier de A à Z, photos à l'appui. Vous verrez qu'il n'y a rien de sorcier à cela, patience et soin étant les maîtres mots cependant.
Nous n'avons cependant pas, comme ACTA, les moyens ni les connaissances en forge nécessaires à la fabrication de nos casques, armes et protections métalliques. C'est ce qui fait la différence entre les professionnels réels et les amateurs tels que nous. Mais fort heureusement, de très bons artisans dans le domaine de la reconstitution de pièces archéologiques existent, et même si nous sommes obligés de reprendre et réajuster tous les casques, cela reste d'une finition plus que correcte.
Les tuniques, comme vous pouvez en voir certaines ici, sont cousues à la main par souci historique, conformes à ce qui se voit sur les iconographies de l'époque. Elles sont toutes en lin ou en coton.
A ceci il faut encore ajouter divers objets faits mains tels que d'autres habits, ceinturons, besaces, bracelet de cuir, lacets…Le tout représente des heures de travail, mais quand on aime… on ne compte pas !
Tout l'équipement suivant est donc réalisé manuellement par l'Association.
Il faut savoir que nos combats n'étant pas chorégraphiés et les armes étant réelles, il existait un risque trop important de se blesser en combat. Nos armes ont donc toutes été sécurisées, soit comme sur le trident par la pose de manchons de protections sur les pointes, soit par l'émoussage des lames. Pour plus de sécurité sans pour autant perdre le côté spectaculaire des affrontements, nous nous interdisons certains coups qui peuvent malgré toutes les précautions possibles se révéler dangereux : les coups de front, appelés coups d'estoc. Car même une arme élimée peut créer hématomes, contusions ou bris de côte. C'est pourquoi nous travaillons par coups de taille, en touchant l'autre du plat ou du côté de l'arme.
